Elías to undergo surgery after Jerez crash

The Spanish rider will have an operation today in Barcelona after it was confirmed he has a small fracture in a finger on his left hand, and another fracture in his right foot.

Toni Elías underwent surgery on Tuesday at the Teknon Clinic in Barcelona to correct fractures in a finger on his left hand and in his right ankle, injuries suffered in a fall on the final day of the Official Moto2 Test at Jerez on Monday.

The procedure was performed by Doctor Joaquím Casañas, orthopaedic surgeon and hand surgery specialist at the Teknon Clinic, and was a success. The surgery involved the placement of a screw and protector in the right ankle, and in his left hand Elías had five screws put in place.

Elías’ recovery, which will be supervised by Ricard Huélamo, Director of Sports Physiotherapy at the Clinic, has begun immediately. If the rehabilitation process goes according to plan and without complications, it is anticipated that Elías will recover in time for the opening round of the Moto2 World Championship in Qatar on April 11th.
