Honda feeling just right for De Puniet

Honda feeling just right for De Puniet

The Frenchman of the LCR Honda team will start Sunday’s race from fourth position on the grid – the highest placed Honda rider.

After making further useful progress through the second free session, LCR Honda MotoGP rider Randy de Puniet produced a thrilling qualifying practice display to record the fourth fastest time.

The Frenchman, aboard the RC212V, went around the Losail track 46 times during the two sessions, clocking a quickest lap of 1’55.831 – only 0.824s behind pole position. The fastest Honda rider will start from the second row behind Casey Stoner, Valentino Rossi and Jorge Lorenzo.

Randy de Puniet:

“Two months ago we had some issues with the new bike at the Sepang Test but we remained focused on our job and I was confident that my crew could give me a better bike. We have improved slowly and my feeling has increased a lot. Since the beginning of this weekend we have worked in the right manner, making some long runs on race tyres with an excellent pace. In the qualifying session we have tested our race mapping and at the end I have lapped on soft tyres, achieving a place on the second row. I was honestly not expecting such a brilliant result but I am very happy and want to thank my crew. The start to the race is really important if I want to close the gap to the front riders.”
