Elías will give everything despite not being at 100%

Elías will give everything despite not being at 100%

The Gresini Racing Moto2 rider is still feeling pain in his injured hand but hopes to be competitive at Jerez, where he will endeavour to use the home support of the Spanish fans.

Still feeling the physical consequences of his fall in the final pre-season Test at Jerez, Toni Elías returns to the Andalusian circuit ready to give his all in search of a good result at the Gran Premio bwin de España this weekend.

In an interview with motogp.com the Gresini Racing Moto2 rider discussed his injury, and how his left foot is almost fine but that he is still suffering some pain from the fracture to a finger in his left hand which he suffered in his crash at the end of March.

“It is clear that the fact we didn’t go to Japan has benefitted us because I’ve had more days to recuperate from the injuries. I hope to be better than I am now,” said Elías. “The foot has recovered as expected but I still have pain in the hand, because it’s a very delicate area. So I’m not going to Jerez completely recovered, I’ll be more or less at 70%.”

“Fortunately the characteristics of the Jerez circuit should not cause me excessive discomfort because there aren’t rapid changes in direction, especially on the left, as that is where I suffer the most from having to support all the force,” he explained. “I’m sure the fans will do the rest and although they won’t find me in my top physical condition, if I have the opportunity to fight for the victory I will do my best.”

Elías managed a highly impressive fourth place in the opening race in Qatar and now hopes to improve at Jerez, especially after the times he set in the pre-season Tests on his Moriwaki prototype which became one of the reference points for the category.

“Looking at the results we achieved in the pre-season Tests, we should be optimistic here. We saw our potential and we are capable of anything. The only thing holding us back is my injury which doesn’t allow me to ride at my best level. I hope the fans continue with their support and that I can give them a good result in return,” concluded Elías, who will be aiming to repeat his only podium across all categories at the circuit to date, a win in 2003 in the 250cc class.
