De Puniet to continue with improvements on Saturday

The LCR Honda rider started to find a comfortable level on his RC212V towards the end of FP1, and will maintain his push in Saturday’s practice and qualifying sessions at the Gran Premio bwin de España.

LCR Honda MotoGP Team rider Randy De Puniet has every reason to believe he can challenge for a front-running result after an impressive start to the season at Losail, where he qualified a superb fourth quickest and finished in sixth place, just seven seconds off the podium.

The Frenchman, riding the Honda RC212V, completed 23 laps of the Jerez circuit on Friday during the first free practice, clocking a fastest time of 1’41.293 which was 13th overall.

Randy de Puniet:

“Today’s session did not go as we planned as we faced some issues with shifting and I was not very comfortable. Then I came out on my second bike and did acceptable lap times but I felt the engine was too aggressive so we must work on this tonight. Anyway, we had some little improvements at the end of the session and I started to get comfortable. I lapped on the same tyres for the whole session and my best lap time came out at the end on a 25-lap tyre, so I believe we have got the potential to improve in tomorrow’s sessions. I was not looking for the best placement today.”
