Speaker’s Corner Jerez: Ian Wheeler’s QP view

See what Pit Lane reporter and commentator Ian Wheeler has to say about how he thinks Sunday’s Gran Premio bwin de España will go, and submit your Fantasy MotoGP predictions for Jerez now!

After a thrilling qualifying session on Saturday Pit Lane reporter and commentator Ian Wheeler discussed his thoughts on how Sunday’s MotoGP race at Jerez could go.

With less than four-tenths of a second separating the top four qualifiers in Dani Pedrosa, Jorge Lorenzo, Casey Stoner and Valentino Rossi, Ian believes it will be just as close in the race as he kept his cards close to his chest with regards to predictions for Sunday’s race.

“I think Valentino Rossi’s still having some problems and wasn’t prepared to take the risk in qualifying to put the bike on the front row and risk a crash and injure it further,” said Ian. “He will have had his race strategy sorted out since Friday after the first practice when he tested his shoulder and will know what will give him the best chance of winning. Whether it is enough to stop Casey Stoner and Jorge Lorenzo from getting away from him, I don’t know.”

“Jerez is not a circuit the Ducati has gone well at in the past but Casey Stoner showed in free practice that he was capable of running at the front at will, but couldn’t quite pull it together for pole. I think everybody had Jorge Lorenzo down for pole before we got here. He’s been there for the past two years, but was beaten today by Dani Pedrosa, who was still unhappy. He still has problems with the bike, and he knows it will be hard to run consistently in the race. I also think we’ll see Nicky Hayden go well tomorrow.”
