Debón sets the tempo in Moto2 warm-up

The Aeroport de Castelló-Ajo rider is the fastest in the 20-minute Sunday morning session ahead of the race at Jerez.

Alex Debón took his FTR machine round the Jerez circuit the quickest on Sunday morning as the Moto2 field warmed up. The Aeroport de Castelló-Ajo rider’s lap time of 1’44.705 was better than his qualifying time, which placed him 13th on the starting grid.

Debón’s time put him ahead of Thomas Lüthi (Interwetten Moriwaki Racing), Toni Elías (Gresini Racing Moto2) and Yuki Takahashi (Tech3 Racing) in the session, a trio who will all start from inside the top five positions for the race later on Sunday.

Completing the top eight positions in the warm-up, which was bathed in sunshine, were Simone Corsi (JiR Moto2), Claudio Corti (Forward Racing), Julián Simón (Mapfre Aspar) and Scott Redding (Marc VDS Racing Team). Anthony West (MZ Racing) and Stefan Bradl (Viessmann Kiefer Racing) also registered top ten times.

There was a concerning looking highside for Alex de Angelis (RSM Team Scot) early in the session and he required a visit to the Clinica Mobile for medical tests after being stretchered off. The rider was passed not fit for the race after sustaining a contusion to his lung, and was taken to the Hospital de Jerez for a CT scan. Corti also had a fall which resulted in no injury.

The Moto2 race begins at 12.15pm local time.
