Pedrosa feels rewarded after giving everything at Jerez

The Repsol Honda rider took second place in his home race on Sunday and was delighted to have been able to finish on the podium after pushing himself “to the limit”.

Dani Pedrosa gave the fans at the Gran Premio bwin de España extreme excitement in the second round of the 2010 MotoGP World Championship, as he and fellow Spaniard Jorge Lorenzo battled with one another right to the end for victory at Jerez.

Eventually it was Lorenzo who took first place and second was a huge reward for Repsol Honda rider Pedrosa, who was delighted to have recovered from what he viewed as a below-par result of seventh in the season-opening race in Qatar three weeks ago.

“This is a great result compared to Qatar, which was a disaster,” said Pedrosa after an epic duel with Lorenzo. “To finish on the podium here is unbelievable, even though it is disappointing to be beaten with half a lap to go, but I think Lorenzo had a very good race so he deserves the win.”

“I pushed myself to the limit on each lap and I didn’t expect to be at the front for so long, so second place is a good position,” he added.

The support of the packed Jerez circuit created a characteristically fantastic atmosphere, and Pedrosa was also pleased to have been part of a spectacle that thrilled onlookers as he gave his all to try and convert his pole position into victory.

“I tried my best! Each lap I pushed 100% and I just tried to get to the finish line,” he explained. “I had a few moments but I was able to stay on the bike and I fought a little with Jorge to keep the position, but he was too strong.”

It was a huge step forward on the RC212V which Pedrosa had been struggling with in pre-season and in race one, and there is still plenty of room for further improvement he says.

He concluded by stating his aim for the next race at Le Mans in three weeks, adding: “Just to keep improving the bike because we are having so many problems. I fought with the bike all through the race.”
