De Puniet primed for home GP

De Puniet primed for home GP

Le Mans will be a special race in the calendar for the LCR Honda rider, who discusses the event, his career in MotoGP, his bike this season and a range of subjects in an attached video interview.

Randy de Puniet will be aiming to give the fans at Le Mans something extra to cheer this weekend as he targets a strong display in his home race, the Monster Energy Grand Prix de France.

The French rider has made a strong start to his 2010 campaign and currently occupies sixth spot in the Championship standings, making him the highest placed private team rider. This weekend at Le Mans he is targeting another good result to continue his impressive opening run.

“This season I would like to have a good French GP because it’s important for me, for my fans and for my sponsors,” explained De Puniet in the attached video interview. “A good result would be the same as the rest of the GPs – to be around the top eight. Obviously the podium would be fantastic, but I don’t want to speak about the podium just yet because it’s too early.”

A blistering start to the Championship saw De Puniet qualify in fourth place in Qatar and sixth at Jerez, and he made rapid progress in pre-season too as he found a good setting on the RC212V machine straight away.

“Honda gave me the same base as the one they gave to the Repsol Honda riders, and this is a good point for us,” said De Puniet of his prototype. “I don’t know yet if my bike is 100% the same as that of Dani (Pedrosa) and Andrea (Dovizioso), but my target is to fight to be the best privateer rider and to be around the top six often.”

He continued: “I am in good shape but I want to improve and to fight for the podium because I think that we have the chance to be there – not in all the races, but in some.”
