De Puniet satisfied with set-up

De Puniet satisfied with set-up

The LCR Honda rider accomplished his aims in the opening practice and is now focused on continuing the progress over the Gran Premio d’Italia TIM weekend.

LCR Honda rider Randy de Puniet posted the 11th-fastest lap time in the opening practice on a hot Friday afternoon at Mugello. The first session of the Gran Premio d’Italia TIM was run on a track with a temperature measuring 50ºC and De Puniet completed 25 laps on his RC212V, clocking a best lap time of 1’51.605.

Following a strong start to the season the LCR team arrived in Tuscany with the aim of consolidating De Puniet’s hold on sixth place in the standings, currently the best-placed private team rider. The Frenchman completed a productive day in preparation for Sunday’s 23-lap race, working on engine mapping.

Randy de Puniet

“People could be disappointed about our position in the classification but we have followed our list of things we wanted to do, lapping on the same tyre throughout the session. We are pretty satisfied about the bike set-up. We did more than the race distance with the front and rear race tyre and we have been working on the race set-up. I jumped onto bike number two with different settings but I felt more comfortable on bike number one. Anyway, the overall package is quite good and I am confident ahead of tomorrow’s qualifying. We can definitely aim for a second row start but we need to improve the traction control.”
