Lüthi laps quickest in Moto2 session

Interwetten Moriwaki rider goes fastest in warm-up, ahead of Championship leader Toni Elías.

Thomas Lüthi set the best time in the 20-minute Moto2 warm-up session on Sunday morning as he prepared for the Gran Premio d’Italia race with a best lap of 1’56.345. That placed the Swiss rider 0.111s ahead of Championship leader Toni Elías (Gresini Racing Moto2) who was second on the timesheet.

Lukas Pesek (Matteoni CP Racing) was third at just six-hundredths further back, with Yuki Takahashi (Tech3 Racing) completing the top four. Sergio Gadea (Tenerife 40 Pons) and pole position holder Andrea Iannone (Fimmco Speed Up) were fifth and sixth respectively, with the Italian 0.345s off Lüthi’s time.

Alex de Angelis (RSM Team Scot) set what was the seventh fastest time of the session before he had a crash at Turn 3, with Julián Simón (Mapfre Aspar), Raffaele De Rosa (Tech3 Racing) and Alex Debón (Aeroport de Castelló-Ajo) all inside the top ten. There was a crash at the very end of the session for Stefan Bradl (Viessmann Kiefer Racing).

The Moto2 race is due to get underway at 12.15pm local time.
