De Puniet finds Silverstone to his liking

The LCR Honda rider was mightily impressed with the new circuit as he placed fourth in the opening practice session of the AirAsia British Grand Prix.

Randy de Puniet declared himself a fan of Silverstone after the first practice of the weekend, as he started his quest to follow up sixth place at Mugello with another strong result.

The Frenchman was the leading rider for the early part of the session and his eventual best time of 2’06.439 placed him fourth in the hour-long practice. The 29 year-old lapped consistently and was extremely pleased with his race pace, as he timed in at 0.448s off fastest in the session Jorge Lorenzo.

“I had fun today and I am a big fan of this track. It suits my riding style and I am enjoying myself very much. In my opinion this is the best track in the calendar!” enthused De Puniet.

“It’s just a bit bumpy but we can rely on our machine set up,” he continued. “I lapped on a hard rear tyre and the pace was consistent and we gathered some useful data for tomorrow’s session. We must fix some small things as this is our first outing here on this machine but I am pretty confident ahead tomorrow’s qualifying session.”
