New layout suits Espargaró in opening ride

New layout suits Espargaró in opening ride

The Pramac Racing rider was enamoured with the new circuit as the AirAsia British Grand Prix got underway.

Aleix Espargaró was extremely satisfied with his position of eighth on the timesheet in the first practice at Silverstone on Friday, as he continued his marked progress in the premier class.

The young Spaniard’s race results have improved in each of the four rounds to date, with eighth at Mugello in the last race his best to date, and his effort levels were not letting up at Silverstone.

Espargaró set a best time of 2’07.927 in FP1 as he completed 20 laps on his satellite Ducati, and found the Silverstone layout much to his liking. "This track is amazing, I love it!” he exclaimed after the hour-long session.

“The fast turns suit my riding style,” he continued. “The part I like most is the first section with the long and quick curves. I had some problems with the front of my bike in the slow curves but my technicians have already found the solution to balance my bike in the best way.”

“I have a gap of almost two seconds to the top time but I hope to further improve my lap times tomorrow so that I can start Sunday's race from inside the top ten positions.”
