Dovizioso going for victory

Dovizioso going for victory

The Italian of the Repsol Honda team is aiming for top spot at Silverstone after qualifying on the second row.

Andrea Dovizioso’s aim for the AirAsia British Grand Prix at Silverstone is the top step of the podium after the Italian qualified in fourth place for Sunday’s race. The Repsol Honda rider, who won last year’s race at Donington, was satisfied with his place at the top of the second row, and wants to push for victory when the lights go out on Sunday.

“I’m happy with qualifying in fourth place and starting from the front of the second row,” he said. “I wanted to be a little bit closer in terms of lap times and we still need to improve the pace for tomorrow so that we can fight for first place, but I’m satisfied with the result today.”

A crash in the morning practice session failed to dent Dovizioso’s confidence and he explained that having to use his second RC212V was not too much of a hindrance to his progress.

“This morning I crashed, fortunately without hurting myself, and I was able to get straight back on my second bike and be back on the pace immediately,” explained the 23 year-old. “Because of this crash we couldn’t do so much comparison work between the two chassis we had available, and so during qualifying I only used the new one, which seems to work well.”

He added: “We’re quietly confident for tomorrow and I’m definitely looking for another podium finish - at least.”
