Smith steps it up on Saturday morning

The Bancaja Aspar rider, looking to go for a home win at Silverstone, set the best time of the second practice session at the AirAsia British Grand Prix ahead of Pol Espargaró and Marc Márquez.

Bradley Smith was the fastest 125cc rider in the second practice on Saturday morning, leading the times with a best lap of 2’16.282 on his final turn in cool but sunny conditions at Silverstone as he prepared himself for an attempt at securing pole position later in the afternoon.

Smith was 0.120s quicker than Pol Espargaró (Tuenti Racing), with the Spaniard just 0.022s ahead of Friday’s fastest Red Bull Ajo Motorsport rider Marc Márquez. Efrén Vázquez (Tuenti Racing) and Nico Terol (Bancaja Aspar) made it four Spaniards inside the top five and all were within 0.331s of Smith.

Sandro Cortese (Avant Mitsubishi Ajo), Randy Krummenacher (Stipa-Molenaar Racing) and Johann Zarco (WTR San Marino Team) completed the provisional second row as they all registered top eight times in preparation for QP. Danny Webb (Andalucia Cajasol) was ninth.

Wildcard rider Danny Kent (Aztec GP) fell foul of the cooler track temperature than yesterday, as did Michael van der Mark (Lambretta Reparto Corse), when both experienced falls. Khairuddin Zulfahmi (AirAsia - Sepang International Circuit Team) had a run off late in the session as well.

The qualifying session for the 125cc class is due to start at 1pm local time.
