Tackling Silverstone with Jorge Lorenzo and Ramon Forcada

Tackling Silverstone with Jorge Lorenzo and Ramon Forcada

The Fiat Yamaha rider and his crew chief discuss how they have been preparing for the first of two new circuits on the 2010 calendar, in this extended and exclusive video.

The AirAsia British Grand Prix this weekend provides an added challenge for the MotoGP riders as they learn the new Silverstone circuit layout, and in this exclusive video interview World Championship leader Jorge Lorenzo and his Fiat Yamaha crew chief Ramon Forcada explain how they have prepared themselves for what the track will offer.

“We’ve studied the characteristics of the track and now we have a lot of information which we’ve used to make a simulation for the lap,” explained Forcada, who discussed a range of technical aspects on the set-up of the M1 in the attached video. “We’ve also measured the camber and the sloping of the track which helps with traction control and suspension. The only thing we can’t measure is the condition of the surface. There are different kinds of asphalt and it’s bumpy, so that is down to Jorge to test out.”

Lorenzo also gave a rider’s perspective on the work that goes into the preparation, and discussed how he had done some early homework before arriving at the track. “I love playing the PlayStation so I’ve tried to get to know the circuit in this way. But when I arrived here I went out on the scooter and I realised a lot of corners have been modified so the weekend will present a new track,” said Lorenzo.
