Best result to date shows Simoncelli progress

The rookie of the San Carlo Honda Gresini team finished seventh at Silverstone, thus continuing his development in the premier class.

Marco Simoncelli’s best result to date in his debut MotoGP season came at the AirAsia British Grand Prix on Sunday, and seventh place left the Italian extremely pleased with the shape that his season is taking.

Having battled with eventual podium finisher Ben Spies, Simoncelli was delighted with the progress made once more. His results have continued on an upward curve throughout the opening five rounds (11-11-10-9-7) as he has bettered his understanding and feeling with his satellite RC212V.

"We have definitely taken another important step forward here,” stated the 23 year-old after his result at Silverstone. “I got a good start and stuck with the group fighting for the podium for the majority of the race. I was able to run with Spies and close the gap right down but they were able to keep their pace to the end of the race whereas I struggled at the end as my tyres went off.”

“It was nice to have them in my sights until two laps from the end though and I feel like I have really improved. I had fun today - hopefully next time it can be even closer to the front,” he concluded.
