After 24 years Silverstone again hosted a MotoGP race as the AirAsia British Grand Prix took place at the specially redeveloped circuit. Round five of the 2010 campaign offered more thrilling action on the fantastic new layout of the Northamptonshire track.

The weekend started with the most traditional of English pastimes as Nicky Hayden and Jorge Lorenzo visited Lord's Cricket Ground to sample the sport. The game faces were on at the pre-event press conference however with Lorenzo, Casey Stoner, Dani Pedrosa, Marco Melandri and Paul Denning all present.

The day before the GP weekend started saw Day of Champions take place at Silverstone, and the event raised almost €200,000 for MotoGP’s official charity Riders for Health.

On track, the biggest challenge for the riders was the unknown quantity that the new layout provided, so British 125cc star Bradley Smith and motogp.com commentator Nick Harris completed a lap as they discussed what the riders would face throughout the weekend.

Championship leader Lorenzo took to the contours quickest as he topped FP1, with Pedrosa taking the momentum in FP2. However, Lorenzo was back on top in qualifying as he took his first pole position of the season.

The Spaniard converted top spot on the starting grid into victory in the MotoGP race, and Lorenzo was delighted with his third victory of the season, which opened up a 37-point at the top of the standings. Andrea Dovizioso moved into second place in the Championship as he finished behind Lorenzo, with Ben Spies achieving his first MotoGP podium in third. There was bad luck for Hiroshi Aoyama though, as a crash in the warm up before the race resulted in a fractured vertebra.

Moto2 delivered another fantastic race in which Jules Cluzel triumphed, with the 125 contest a fierce fight between Marc Márquez and Pol Espargaró, with the former winning.

As always the Paddock Girls were ever present as well.
