Melandri already focused on Catalunya

The San Carlo Honda Gresini rider dislocated his shoulder in a practice crash on Friday at the TIM TT Assen, and is already looking ahead to the next round.

Marco Melandri had an unfortunate early end to his Friday at the TIM TT Assen when a highside crash in FP2 resulted in a dislocated shoulder for the San Carlo Honda Gresini rider.

Melandri ran on at Turn 7 and as he tried to brake hard he lost control of the back of his machine, which highsided him. Having missed qualification in the afternoon there is only a slim chance the Italian will test the water with his injured left arm in Saturday morning’s warm up session, and he is already looking ahead to next weekend’s Gran Premi Aperol de Catalunya to make up ground.

“Today was a day to forget. It started well because the feeling with the bike was really good and I was able to put a fast time in on a tyre with a lot of laps on it, so I was happy. Unfortunately it wasn’t to be and now I have to look ahead to hopefully having a good race at Barcelona,” said Melandri, who went on to describe the fall.

“I went wide coming into the turn at the back of the pits and tried to get onto the tarmac path back onto the track but I couldn’t get on it and as I headed back towards the track I was worried I might hit another rider, so I tried to change my line. Unfortunately I lost the rear on the grass and when I got back onto the tarmac it gripped and threw me into the air. I knew straight away that my shoulder was out.”
