Session clean sweep for Lorenzo

Session clean sweep for Lorenzo

The Fiat Yamaha rider topped the warm up ahead of the TIM TT Assen, which he will start from pole position. Dani Pedrosa and Casey Stoner completed the top three.

Jorge Lorenzo was once more on top of proceedings at the TIM TT Assen on Saturday morning, setting the fastest time in warm up as he had done in both free practices and qualifying. The World Championship leader’s lap of 1’34.773 placed him top by a margin of 0.151s as he made the final race preparations on his factory M1.

Dani Pedrosa (Repsol Honda), who will start from the third row, bettered his own qualification time with a 1’34.924 as he joined Lorenzo under the 1’35” marker, whilst Casey Stoner was third in the 20-minute warm up. The Ducat Team rider was just over two-tenths off Lorenzo, and will start from third place on the grid.

Confirming his set-up after a strong qualification Monster Yamaha Tech 3’s Ben Spies was fourth, with Andrea Dovizioso (Repsol Honda) and front row starter Randy de Puniet (LCR Honda) completing the top six. Colin Edwards (Monster Yamaha Tech3), Aleix Espargaró (Pramac Racing), Nicky Hayden (Ducati Team) and Marco Simoncelli (San Carlo Honda Gresini Team) were all inside the top ten.

Kousuke Akiyoshi, riding for the Interwetten Honda MotoGP Team in place of the injured Hiroshi Aoyama, had completed just four laps of the session when he had a crash at Turn 15 towards the start. The Japanese rider returned later to complete a further two laps.

Absent from the session was Marco Melandri (San Carlo Honda Gresini) after his dislocated shoulder suffered yesterday, and the Italian will not race this afternoon. The MotoGP race starts at 2pm local time.
