Jorge Lorenzo’s win in round six of the 2010 MotoGP World Championship underlined the Fiat Yamaha rider’s strength once more as he extended his lead at the top of the standings to 47 points, and commentator Nick Harris gave his reaction to the 23 year-old’s fourth win of the campaign at the TIM TT Assen.

“He’s riding so well, but he did admit he made a mistake going through the chicane with two laps to go when riding on his own, and he almost crashed! It’s quite difficult to see who can challenge him for the Championship,” said Nick. “I think Dani Pedrosa did very well here and he hung onto Lorenzo for a very long time before the tyres started going off. It was good to see Casey Stoner back on the podium but he has a problem now with arm pump, and I think he could challenge Lorenzo for some race victories.”

Following the podium finishers in fourth place with another impressive ride was Monster Yamaha Tech 3 rider Ben Spies. “He has shown that at circuits he’s never been to before he can do well and he rode so well again here,” continued Nick. “Barcelona may be particularly tough because the Grand Prix regulars know it so well, but Spies rides using his head and doesn’t try anything he shouldn’t.”

In the Moto2 race Fimmco Speed Up rider Andrea Iannone repeated his Mugello win from pole as he opened up a clear advantage early on in the race, taking victory ahead of Championship leader Toni Elías and Thomas Lüthi.

“Iannone cleared off at the front like he did at Mugello, and he’s becoming a little bit of a Championship contender,” Nick commented. “I think Barcelona will be a big test for him. Toni Elías did another great job by taking 20 points, and Tom Lüthi who came in third is doing well in the Championship as well.”

The Spanish domination in the 125cc class continued without any sign of letting up as Marc Márquez took his third consecutive win ahead of Nico Terol and Pol Espargaró, closing in on the top two in the standings in the process.

“It was unlucky for Terol meeting the back marker and who knows what would have happened, but Márquez is riding so brilliantly and is right in the Championship race. Since he opened the door with that first win he has been fantastic,” Nick said. “Terol’s back at the top of the Championship and it’s going to go to the wire with him and Espargaró, but you have to say that Márquez is going to join in as well.”
