The action continued to come fast and furious over the weekend as the TIM TT Assen served up the second GP of three in a row, and the sixth round of the 2010 campaign was marked by the 80th anniversary of the Dutch TT. Special celebrations included Italian legend Giacomo Agostini completing some laps of the track on the YZR500 OW23 he won his last ever world title in 1975, and also the 2010 YZR-M1. The official GP pre-event involved present-day riders, led by MotoGP star Héctor Barberá, taking on journalists in a boat race along the canals of Assen.

The pre-event press conference saw Silverstone podium finishers Jorge Lorenzo (Fiat Yamaha), Andrea Dovizioso (Repsol Honda) and Ben Spies (Monster Yamaha Tech 3) joined by Ducati Team rider Casey Stoner and Rizla Suzuki’s Álvaro Bautista. Moto2 rider Tom Lüthi also completed a lap of the newly modified Assen track with to see what the riders would face throughout the weekend.

When the action got underway on Thursday it was Lorenzo who topped FP1 as Kousuke Akiyoshi made his first appearance as a substitute on the Interwetten Honda MotoGP Team for the injured Hiroshi Aoyama. Lorenzo continued his form in FP2 on Friday, in which an unfortunate highside for Marco Melandri resulted in a dislocated left shoulder which ruled him out of the race. Lorenzo completed a clean sweep of all sessions in qualifying to take pole position for the second straight race.

Saturday race day provided plenty of excitement and in the 125 class it was Marc Márquez (Red Bull Ajo Motorsport) who took victory, his third in a row. The Moto2 race was won by Andrea Iannone (Fimmco Speed Up), his second success of the season. Missing from the race however was Alex Debón, after the Spanish rider fractured a collarbone in a QP crash.

Keeping the male members of the crowd smiling the Paddock Girls added their usual touch to proceedings, before the main event got underway.

Taking his fourth win of the season and stretching his advantage at the top of the standings to 47 points with victory in the MotoGP race, Championship leader Jorge Lorenzo topped the podium and led the post-race press conference.
