De Puniet to go for best result so far

The LCR Honda rider was in top form again in qualifying for the Gran Premi Aperol de Catalunya, booking his third straight front-row start.

Randy de Puniet will go for his best result of the season so far when the lights go out at Montmeló, having struck what he believes is the perfect level on his satellite RC212V machine in qualifying on Saturday.

The Frenchman was consistently fast throughout the hour-long session, leading the timesheet for much of it, and eventually finished third to make it a third consecutive front-row start on Sunday.

“I’m so happy because I did a fast lap time at the beginning and with a race tyre, and was very consistent. The difference with the hard and soft tyre was not so big in the end, and that’s why tomorrow I can keep a very good pace and fight for maybe close to the podium, we will see,” he stated.

De Puniet has finished sixth four times this season, impressing with his riding and consolidating himself as the highest ranking satellite rider in the overall standings.

“It will be a very difficult race tomorrow because the temperature is very high, but I feel the bike is good and the tyres too,” he continued. “I think tomorrow I can have my best result of the year so far.”

Finally, he hopes to be able to deal with the high temperatures that marked the session today. “It is very hot, and the ground temperature is like Malaysia, but for me it’s not a problem,” he added. “We did a good job as a team because my bike improved a lot since yesterday. It’s perfect for me.”
