Emilio Alzamora honoured by Circuit de Catalunya

The 1999 125cc World Champion has had a plaque in his honour unveiled at the Montmeló track this weekend.

Emilio Alzamora’s name has been added to the ‘Avenue of Champions’ at the Circuit de Catalunya, and a plaque with the former 125cc World Champion’s name on it was revealed on Friday as the Gran Premi Aperol de Catalunya got underway.

Now managing current 125cc star Marc Márquez, Alzamora’s achievements as a rider were recognised and his name joins those of other World Champions in Àlex Crivillé, Sito Pons, Ángel Nieto, Mick Doohan, Dani Pedrosa, Jorge Lorenzo, Nicky Hayden and Casey Stoner in having a plaque at the Barcelona circuit.

“I’m very happy because I was able to live out my passion for motorcycles when I was young, competing at the highest level and winning the 1999 title, and now I am able to convey that along with my experience through the new values of our motorcycling,” said Alzamora, who is also director of the Monlau Competicion riding school. “To now have a place on the Avenue of Champions is a privilege.”
