Season’s best for De Puniet and LCR

Season’s best for De Puniet and LCR

The Frenchman was fourth in the Gran Premi Aperol de Catalunya on Sunday, as his and the LCR Honda team’s superb progress in 2010 continued.

Randy de Puniet’s third front-row start in succession produced the French rider’s best result of the season so far on Sunday at Montmeló, as he rode to fourth place in the Gran Premi Aperol de Catalunya.

Having lapped consistently in qualifying and securing third place on the grid for the start of the race, De Puniet and his crew opted for the extra hard rear asymmetric Bridgestone tyre – one of only four of the 17 riders who started the race that did so.

“We decided to go with the harder tyre and I struggled a bit with rear edge-grip in the beginning,” explained De Puniet. “I had a bad start from the front row but immediately pushed to catch the three riders at the front and after that my race pace was exactly what we were expecting.”

“I took up fourth position and decided to keep my rhythm until the end as I could easily control the gap to the other riders,” he continued. “Simoncelli tried to catch me but he made a mistake and crashed out.”

Having previously peaked with sixth place on four occasions prior to Catalunya fourth place was another impressive result and one which delighted De Puniet, who now sits fifth in the overall standings and is level on 69 points with fourth-placed Nicky Hayden.

“I knew I could get my best result of the season here and this fourth place is simply fantastic for me and the guys,” stated De Puniet. “We now hold fifth place in the Championship as the best private team, and we will keep on working in this direction to place our Honda towards the front at every GP of the season.”
