Márquez encouraged by “important” test

The 125cc World Championship rider was amongst those present at Aragón, where he had a very productive and satisfying first ride of the “enjoyable” addition to the 2010 calendar.

Marc Márquez was one of the many riders who expressed their admiration for the new Motorland Aragón circuit at last week’s Moto2/125cc test, and the Red Bull Ajo Motorsport rider not only got a first look at its layout but also worked on some settings for the race on September 19th.

Setting the fastest time was not the only result of the two days of hard work at the circuit, as Márquez also cited some pleasing improvements on his Derbi bike.

“It’s a new track and we completed some laps to get to know the circuit. By the end of the second day we improved a lot and found some settings, some with the gear box too. I think we have a good set-up for the GP and we will see when we arrive here (in September). This test was very important for the GP,” explained Márquez, who also gave his verdict on the new venue in the attached video.

“I like the circuit, it’s downhill, uphill, has fast and slow corners, good braking points… It’s fun when you find a good line and is enjoyable to ride,” he added.

Currently top of the Championship standings by a single point thanks to his fantastic run of form, which has seen him become the youngest ever rider to win four back-to-back races, Márquez is mature in his maintenance of a focused approach to improving even more.

“The feeling is very good and I have a lot of confidence with the bike,” he said. “I think the most important thing is the feeling with the team, so we need to carry on like this. Now we are at a good stage but we need to improve a little bit, we are strong.”

Next up is Sachsenring where the 17 year-old will seek to open up more of an advantage than the single point he presently holds in the standings over Pol Espargaró.

“I like Germany, it’s difficult with a slow first part but the last part is good because it’s fast. Last year I didn’t have a good result because I crashed in the last corner, but in the race I was there fighting for the podium. With this bike I can improve compared to last year, and we hope to stay in the front group,” he concluded.
