Espargaró: “It’s complicated, Marc is going extremely fast”

Espargaró: “It’s complicated, Marc is going extremely fast”

The Tuenti Racing rider, who last won at Le Mans, is just a point off the Championship leader as the 125cc contest hots up at Sachsenring this weekend.

Pol Espargaró arrives at Sachsenring for this weekend’s eni Motorrad Grand Prix Deutschland determined to halt the winning streak of title rival Marc Márquez, as he attempts to take the Championship lead from his fellow Spaniard. Just a single point separates the duo at the top, with Márquez having won the last four successive races, before which Espargaró won two on the bounce.

The Tuenti Racing rider was present at the private test at Motorland Aragón last week, which will host Round 12 of the Championship on September 19th, as he worked on some solutions for his Derbi machine as well as preparing himself for this weekend’s appointment at Sachsenring.

“It’s gone well and we’ve achieved what we wanted: to get to know the circuit and try out some components on the bike. We have a chassis that we worked well on from the start, but the engine lacks a tiny bit,” explained the 19 year-old after two days at Aragón, a track he now admires.

“I like it a lot. It’s a track for everyone! It has fast sections, slow ones, and they combine well. It will be very fun to race here, as it will be for fans to watch.”

Currently on 131 points in the standings Espargaró commented on the fight for the title: “The thing is it’s very complicated. Marc is going extremely fast and we lack something at the start of the race, but I think we can get that because we’ve been working very well, I’m evolving as rider, as are the team and the bike.”

The objective for Espargaró this weekend will be to improve on last year’s Sachsenring display, when he put on a fantastic performance to rise from 19th on the starting grid to finish the race in fifth.

“Last year it rained and I started from far back, and in the race we pulled it back quite a bit. This year we’re ready to do the best we can, to give it everything and try to win, that’s the main aim. In any case, it’s a circuit I like and one at which I go well,” he concluded.
