Victory the target for Repsol Honda

Victory the target for Repsol Honda

Both Dani Pedrosa and Andrea Dovizioso are determined to challenge for the win at the eni Motorrad Grand Prix Deutschland this weekend.

Repsol Honda riders Dani Pedrosa and Andrea Dovizioso both have victory in their sights as they prepare for this weekend’s eni Motorrad Grand Prix Deutschland. The pair currently occupy second and third in the World Championship and are eager to gain further ground in the their respective campaigns at round eight.

Pedrosa has a strong record at Sachsenring having won there in 2007 and he led the race before a crash in 2008, whilst last year the Spaniard finished on the podium. Having finished second in the last two rounds at Assen and Catalunya, Pedrosa is pleased with the consistency he has started to develop and now wants to build on it.

“It’s been nice to have some rest after three races in a row, but I’m already looking forward to the last two races before the summer break,” he said after a weekend off in a busy summer schedule. “The race at Catalunya was very positive for us and was another podium after the one we got in Assen. I want to maintain this momentum and keep moving forward, and fight for the victory in the two next races. The three races on consecutive weekends we’ve just had have helped me to achieve a very good physical condition and I feel really confident now.”

Discussing his view of this weekend’s venue, Pedrosa continued: “Sachsenring is a circuit where I enjoy racing and we’ve normally had a good performance there; even in 2008 when I crashed I was leading the race with a good gap, so it makes me feel that we can do well again this weekend. I want to be totally concentrated on not making any mistakes and be ready to fight for the win. Finally, I want to congratulate the Spanish national football team for winning the World Cup. I watched the match on TV and it was very emotional!”

Dovizioso comes into Sachsenring off the back of an eventful weekend at Catalunya, where he challenged race winner Jorge Lorenzo at the front of the race before crashing after 15 laps and eventually finishing 14th. Rather than be disappointed the Italian has taken great encouragement from the race pace which was proven in the contest.

“I’m looking forward to racing in Germany again and I believe we can get a strong result this weekend. In Barcelona we had a very good race pace that allowed us to stay with the leader for two thirds of the race, and this was really positive,” said Dovizioso. “At every race this season we are improving and now we have to take the final step and really challenge for the win. At the last race in Catalunya we had the pace to fight for the top position and, even though the final result was not good, we can say that we improved a lot and proved that we are almost where we need to be.”

Having finished on the podium four times already this season the 24 year-old is now more than ready to challenge for a first win of 2010.

“We will continue working towards being able to fight for the win, starting this weekend in Germany,” he continued. “The Sachsenring racetrack is quite short, with a very slow first section followed by a very fast second half. Usually there are so many spectators all the way through the weekend. They are truly passionate about motorsport and the atmosphere is really good."
