Things will be “tight” believes Nick Harris

Things will be “tight” believes Nick Harris

The commentator picks through the first practice at Laguna Seca, and gives his thoughts on how qualifying and the race could shape up.

Casey Stoner led first practice in the Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix ahead of Jorge Lorenzo, with American Ben Spies fifth and fellow home riders Nicky Hayden and Colin Edwards inside the top eight as well. Here, commentator Nick Harris assesses the session.

“We want to see Casey Stoner back winning races and he looked really good in that first practice, so that could be good news for the Championship. He’s also a former winner here. Jorge Lorenzo was consistent with his laps and looked very confident, and he looks in good form as you’d expect. There were good solid sessions from Andrea Dovizioso and Dani Pedrosa too, and if the weather stays the same as it is supposed to it could be a very close race. All the Americans have done well too,” said Nick.

“Ben Spies seems to be thriving on the pressure as he rides at a circuit he knows, and he’ll be pushing towards a podium finish. Nicky Hayden has won twice here before so he can’t be ruled out while Colin Edwards looked in better shape, and he would love to do well here after his season so far.”

“I think times will be tight in qualifying and also in the race, I’m certain there will be a bit of drama and I’m pretty sure the American crowd will have something to cheer about. When they get behind the rider here it is very exciting.”
