Andrea Dovizioso’s 2010 season so far

Andrea Dovizioso’s 2010 season so far

Third in the overall standings the Repsol Honda rider has enjoyed his best ever first half of a premier class season and continues to push for a first win of the campaign on his RC212V.

Andrea Dovizioso’s progress in 2010 has been highly noticeable, not least thanks to his presence in the top three of the MotoGP World Championship standings at the season’s midway point. The 24 year-old Italian has been on the podium four times in the nine rounds to date, has fought Jorge Lorenzo for victory and is clearly eager for more.

The season started in thrilling fashion for Dovizioso, now in his third year in the elite class, as he edged a nail-biting battle for the final podium spot in the season-opening race in Qatar by 0.011s over Nicky Hayden. After a striking start he finished sixth at Jerez, but proved that his round one result was no one-off with another solid podium at Le Mans thanks to a focused ride that saw him take third place with a final lap move.

Consistency became the key word for Dovizioso as he followed up with another third place in his home race at Mugello, but even better was to come in the next round at Silverstone. Having won the British GP the previous season at Donington, Dovizioso placed second at the new circuit, moving ever closer to a first win of the campaign.

Assen proved to be a tough race for Dovizioso as he struggled with the front-end feeling of his machine and placed fifth, but he appeared to have found his feet once more at Catalunya where he fought closely with Jorge Lorenzo at the front of the race before crashing and eventually coming in 14th. He had proved however that he had the pace and guile to battle at the top.

Having set himself high standards already fifth place in the following race at Sachsenring did not satisfy Dovizioso after he had fought for a podium finish, and fourth at Laguna Seca marked another marginal step up before the summer break, after which the Italian can be expected to continue his impressive push for his best campaign to date.
