“Incredible” 11th on grid delights De Puniet

The LCR Honda rider was extremely pleased with an impressive qualifying display as he put in a strong performance at Brno in his first QP since returning from injury.

Battling pain and displaying great determination Randy de Puniet improved his pace session by session at Brno, and the 29 year-old received a painkilling injection prior to this afternoon’s 60-minute qualifying session. The Frenchman bravely qualified as the best satellite Honda rider in 11th place for tomorrow’s 22-lap race, less than four weeks after breaking his leg in Germany.

Randy de Puniet:

“Well... it is awesome to qualify 11th just 25 days after my operation. I am only one-tenth of a second from the third row and this is incredible considering my physical condition. Yesterday I focused on easing my body back into the demands of riding my machine and today we experienced three mid-long run (8 to 10 laps) with good results. I know that the race will be tough but if I can keep this pace I could ride for a top ten finish. Many riders crashed this morning and it also happened to me but luckily I escaped unhurt from the incident. I am delighted because my leg is improving day by day even if I will need a painkilling injection to finish tomorrow’s race.”
