Márquez takes Motegi momentum

Márquez takes Motegi momentum

The Red Bull Ajo Motorsport rider led the way in FP2 as he finished the session ahead of rival Nico Terol in the final practice before qualifying for the Grand Prix of Japan.

Marc Márquez responded to Nico Terol's challenge by setting the fastest lap in the second practice at Motegi on Saturday, with his best time of 1'58.403 placing him at the top of the timesheet by 0.109s ahead of the 125cc Championship leader and Friday's quickest rider.

The duo were the only two to get under the 1'59" barrier as Terol's Bancaja Aspar team-mate Bradley Smith completed the top three, but the Brit was 0.509s down on his colleague's time. Esteve Rabat (Blusens-STX) was fourth at +1.210s on Márquez as the sun blazed down on the riders throughout the 40-minute run.

Efrén Vázquez (Tuenti Racing) and Sandro Cortese (Avant Mitsubishi Ajo) were next in the order, with Pol Espargaró (Tuenti Racing) only able to manage the seventh fastest time and almost a full 1.5s off Márquez.

Terol managed a late moment very well when he was on a fast lap towards the end of the session, as he controlled his Aprilia and stayed upright.
