De Angelis tops Moto2 Sunday session

The pole position holder was the quickest in the final warm up before the Iveco Australian Grand Prix ahead of Wayne Maxwell, Alex Debón and Toni Elías.

Alex de Angelis underlined his intentions of sealing a first win of the season in Sunday's Moto2 race at Phillip Island by setting the fastest lap in warm up, as he prepared to go for victory from pole later in the day. The JiR Moto2 rider set a best time of 1'44.851 in wet conditions, and was the only rider under 1'45" in the 20-minute session.

Australian rider Wayne Maxwell, riding for the Matteoni Racing team this weekend and having qualified in an impressive 11th position, was second with Alex Debón (Aeroport de Castelló-Ajo), Toni Elías (Gresini Racing Moto2) and Thomas Lüthi (Interwetten Moriwaki Racing) completing the top five. Another home rider, Anthony West (MZ Racing) took sixth spot.

Riders experiencing difficulties in the conditions included Ratthapark Wilairot (Thai Honda PTT Singha-SAG) and Kazuki Watanabe (Racing Team Germany) who both crashed during the session. Julián Simón (Mapfre Aspar) also fell, high siding at turn one.
