Pleasing first day for Rossi in Portugal

Pleasing first day for Rossi in Portugal

The Fiat Yamaha rider was satisfied with the work completed on the wet settings of his M1 as he set the third fastest time on day one at Estoril.

Valentino Rossi made up for the lost morning practice at the bwin Grande Premio de Portugal on Friday with a productive afternoon session, as he set the third best time while completing work on the wet settings of his factory M1.

The Fiat Yamaha rider was consistently fast during FP2 and finished just 0.361s off team-mate and fastest of the day Jorge Lorenzo as he accepted the challenge that was laid down by the weather conditions.

"This afternoon was a normal wet practice and I'm happy about my performance. I am close to the top, was fast from the beginning of the session and had a good feeling with the bike,” said Rossi. “Unfortunately we were losing a little bit in some sections of the track, especially the last one because the bike was moving a little too much.”

“Tomorrow we will try to improve the settings. It's important that we made a good start this afternoon as this morning's session was cancelled and it looks like the weather may not be very good over the weekend, so we will not have a lot of time to set up the bike!"

Rossi’s Team Manager Davide Brivio added: "It was a good session today, we started with a good base and Valentino was fast throughout the practice. There are still some improvements to make both with the electronics and the balance of the bike. We got some really useful information from the session so if we have any further wet sessions or a wet race on Sunday we can continue with this good base."

Rossi arrives at the track looking for his third win of the season and also as the most successful rider at Estoril, having won there in the premier class on five previous occasions.
