Espargaró leads close final practice

The Tuenti Racing rider beat Marc Márquez to the top time in 125cc FP3 at Valencia by just two-thousandths of a second, in preparation for Saturday afternoon’s qualifying session.

Pol Espargaró’s last lap of the final practice session at Valencia handed the Spaniard the top time on Saturday morning, as the Tuenti Racing rider prepared for a pole position challenge later in the day. The 19 year-old’s lap of 1’40.196 was just 0.002s faster than that of Marc Márquez.

Third fastest in the 45-minute session was Bradley Smith at 0.116s behind the Championship leader – Smith’s FP2 time remains the fastest of the weekend so far – with Nico Terol fourth and Sandro Cortese (Avant Mitsubishi Ajo) completing a top five separated by just 0.230s.

Efrén Vázquez (Tuenti Racing) was just over half a second back in sixth position, with seventh placed Esteve Rabat (Blusens-STX) a distant 0.774s down on his fellow Spaniard. Rookie of the Year Alberto Moncayo (Andalucia Cajasol) completed the top eight.

In cool early-morning conditions the track measured 11ºC and the riders will return to action at 1.05pm local time for the final qualifying session of the season.
