Ben Spies: 2010 season review

Ben Spies: 2010 season review

motogp.com looks back over the campaign of each premier class rider with a video which compiles the most pivotal moments of their year.

As far as debut seasons go Ben Spies’ maiden campaign in MotoGP in 2010 was one which rarely failed to impress, the American taking two podium results, a pole position and securing a factory ride with Yamaha for 2011 thanks to his rapid acclimatisation to the World Championship.

It was a smooth transition for the Texan as he placed fifth in his opening race with the Monster Yamaha Tech 3 team in Qatar, and whilst a stark reminder of his rookie status was served with crashes at Jerez and Le Mans, his spirit was not dented. A first podium came at Silverstone in Round 5, and from there Spies was regular in impressing with his rides.

A first front-row qualification at Brno was bettered by his maiden pole at Indianapolis, where he led the race and eventually finished second for another rostrum reward. A frequent top-five finisher in the latter half of the campaign delivered Spies sixth place overall in the standings, as he finished his first campaign as the highest satellite rider.

In 2011 he will accompany World Champion Jorge Lorenzo on the factory team, and you can review Spies’ impressive debut MotoGP year in the attached motogp.com video.
