Terol tops first Assen 125 run
Bancaja Aspar rider opens TIM TT Assen with the top time in first practice, ahead of Márquez and Championship leader Espargaró.
The 125cc riders got the TIM TT Assen underway on Thursday and it was Nico Terol who went fastest in the first practice session on the modified Dutch track. The Bancaja Aspar rider set a time of 1’43.208 as he laid down the challenge to his title rivals for round six of the 2010 campaign.
Marc Márquez (Red Bull Ajo Motorsport), who is this weekend going for a third consecutive win, and Pol Espargaró (Tuenti Racing) – who leads the current Championship standings by a single point ahead of Terol – followed in second and third positions respectively, and were the final two riders to join Terol under the 1’44” barrier.
Bradley Smith (Bancaja Aspar), fresh off the back of his first podium of the season last weekend at Silverstone, was fourth fastest at just over eight-tenths off his team-mate’s time, and Sandro Cortese (Avant Mitsubishi Ajo) completed the top five in the hour-long session.
Esteve Rabat (Blusens-STX), Efrén Vázquez (Tuenti Racing) and Randy Krummenacher were inside the top ten, with British rider Danny Webb (Andalucia Cajasol) ninth.
The second practice session gets underway at 9am local time on Friday morning.
