Márquez raises 125cc bar in FP2
The Red Bull Ajo Motorsport became the first and so far only rider of the weekend to go under the 1’43” marker, and was almost six-tenths of a second faster than Terol. Espargaró and Smith set top four times as well.
Marc Márquez upped the ante significantly in the 125cc category at the TIM TT Assen on Friday morning, setting a superb lap time of 1’42.563 to firmly lay down the challenge to his 125cc rivals. Becoming the first rider of the weekend to get under 1’43”, the young Red Bull Ajo Motorsport rider was a substantial 0.583s faster than Nico Terol.
The Bancaja Aspar rider, who set the best time in FP1 the previous day, was second quickest and was followed by Pol Espargaró on the timesheet. The Tuenti Racing rider had a fall just five minutes into the session, but was immediately back on his bike and went on to set a best time of 1’43.196, just five-hundredths off Terol.
Bradley Smith (Bancaja Aspar) completed the top four at almost two-tenths off Espargaró, with Sandro Cortese (Avant Mitsubishi Ajo) fifth at 1.275s off Márquez. Efrén Vázquez (Tuenti Racing), Esteve Rabat (Blusens-STX) and Danny Webb (Andalucia Cajasol) all registered top eight times.
There were crashes in the session for Luca Marconi (Team Ongetta) and Adrián Martín (Team Aeroport de Castelló), who both fell towards the end of the session and were uninjured.
