Márquez maintains edge in second practice
The Red Bull Ajo Motorsport rider came out on top in a tight battle for the fastest time with team-mate Sandro Cortese and title rival Nico Terol.
Marc Márquez was again the fastest rider in 125cc practice at the Red Bull Indianapolis Grand Prix as he topped the second and final session before qualifying later on Saturday. The Championship leader’s final lap of the 40-minute practice, a 1’48.424, snatched top spot back off Sandro Cortese who had mounted a late challenge and led until the dying moments.
The Avant Mitsubishi Ajo rider eventually placed 0.071s off the young Spaniard to take second spot, ahead of Bancaja Aspar pair Nico Terol – who had briefly held the top spot – and Bradley Smith who were the final riders to make it under the 1’49” marker. Smith had a run off with 15 minutes to go but it was a minor mistake from the Brit that had no consequences.
Frenchman Johann Zarco (WTR San Marino Team) was fifth with title challenger Pol Espargaró (Tuenti Racing) 0.861s off Márquez’s pace and in sixth. Esteve Rabat (Blusens-STX), Danny Webb (Andalucia Cajasol), Luis Salom (Stipa-Molenaar Racing) and Randy Krummenacher (Stipa-Molenaar Racing) completed the top ten.
The session took place in fine sunshine and with a track temperature of 29ºC, and qualifying for the 125cc class begins at 1pm local time.
