Márquez tops 125cc field after first test
The Red Bull Ajo Motorsport rider finished the first official test of the year at Valencia as the quickest of the 125cc class.
Marc Márquez was the fastest 125cc rider of the three-day test at the Ricardo Tormo Circuit, rounding off the first official test of the year almost four-tenths of a second ahead of nearest rival Efrén Vázquez.
Setting his time of 1’40.280 during Tuesday morning’s mixed session, Red Bull Ajo Motorsport rider Márquez was 0.394s quicker than Bainet Derbi’s Vázquez, who also set his best time in the same session. Márquez’s best lap was also well over a second quicker than Julián Simón’s pole position from the 2009 GP at the circuit.
Poor weather conditions meant hardly any riders took to the track on Wednesday, with the majority of work being completed on the first two days.
Bainet Derbi rider Pol Espargaró was fastest on Monday and his lap from the first day placed him third overall, with Bradley Smith the fourth and final rider to come in under the 1’41” mark – the Brit set his best time in the late Tuesday session.
Smith’s Bancaja Aspar team-mate Nicolas Terol was next on the timesheet, with Johann Zarco (WTR San Marino Team), Sandro Cortese (Avant Intact Ajo Motorsport), Esteve Rabat (Blusens-STX), Alberto Moncayo (Andalucia Cajasol) and Marcel Schrötter (Interwetten Racing) all registering top ten times on the final timesheet.
