MotoGP faces out in force at Isle of Man TT

Monday, 14 June 2010

MotoGP stars from the past and present were in attendance as Jorge Lorenzo and Loris Capirossi both rode a lap of the course whilst Angel Nieto soaked up the atmosphere.

The 2010 Isle of Man TT had a distinctly MotoGP influence last Friday as three stars delighted fans with their presence on the final day of the famous UK event.

The Rizla Suzuki MotoGP team were in attendance with rider Loris Capirossi as part of the celebrations of the Japanese factory’s 50th anniversary of international racing, and the Italian marked his first visit to the island by leading a Suzuki parade for his first ever lap of the course.

"This place is incredible,” stated Capirossi. “I've seen the TV footage before, but nothing prepares you for the TT course. The surface is much bumpier than I imagined and when you see the speeds that these guys run at, it is simply amazing. It's a fantastic event that you could never replicate anywhere else in the world."

Similarly impressed was World Championship leader Jorge Lorenzo, who was there in his capacity as an ambassador for Dainese. The Spaniard completed a lap of the 37.73 mile course and said: “What an amazing experience! Now I understand why people enjoy the experience of riding at the TT."

Lorenzo continued: "I only did one lap and I would definitely like some more practice. I was able to make a few wheelies and wave a lot to the crowd - there seem to be so many people here. I have read all about the TT in magazine and have seen TV programmes - but nothing can prepare you for the real experience."

Angel Nieto, who won 13 World Championship titles across the 50cc and 125cc classes and competed in the 1968 TT, opted not to ride a lap, instead enjoying the atmosphere of the event he has fond memories of.

"It was a great honour to come back to such a great and historic place as a guest of Dainese,” said Nieto, who is also an ambassador for the race safety partner. “I have strong memories from my time here a long time ago and it is great to come back and see the TT so healthy. It was great to show Jorge the TT and I'm glad he enjoyed so much. For us both it was a very special experience."
