Re-live the Gran Premi Aperol de Catalunya!

Rounding off an intense period of three back-to-back weekends on the 2010 MotoGP calendar, the Gran Premi Aperol de Catalunya – round seven – offered up another slice of superb action. Getting the weekend underway was the pre-event in which WWE star Mark Henry met riders Jorge Lorenzo, Ben Spies, Nicky Hayden and Colin Edwards as they all swapped tips. Later on Thursday the Championship and forthcoming race was discussed in the press conference, as Lorenzo and Spies were joined by Casey Stoner, Dani Pedrosa and Aleix Espargaró.

With the sun in full swing the action got underway on Friday afternoon with Lorenzo topping the opening practice session. He repeated his form on Saturday in both FP2 and qualifying, to take his third straight pole position.

The glorious weather continued on race day and as just over 80,000 fans packed into Montmeló the crowd was delighted by a home winner in the 125cc race, when Marc Márquez became the youngest rider ever to win four consecutive GPs, taking the record off Valentino Rossi. There was a crash for Nico Terol on the last lap as he battled for second spot, and the Spanish rider was taken to hospital where a bruised lung and two fractured vertebra were diagnosed.

The Moto2 race was action-packed as has become the custom and as the field went into the opening turn on lap one there was a big crash which involved nine riders. Yuki Takahashi went on to take his first win of the season, and there was a spectacular crash for Carmelo Morales on the home straight at the end, which he fortunately escaped from without any serious injury.

As the temperature peaked the premier class took centre stage and Jorge Lorenzo secured his third successive win – his fifth of the campaign – to extend his Championship lead to 52 points in a MotoGP race in which Andrea Dovizioso crashed out of when pushing for a top-two finish. The podium was completed by Pedrosa and Stoner, all of whom discussed the race in the post-race press conference.

The OnBoard cameras once more captured the action from an adrenalin pumping perspective, whilst the Paddock Girls were also on hand to provide some glamour. Also in attendance was Spanish actor Antonio Banderas, who watched his Jack&Jones by Antonio Banderas team in the Moto2 race and also discussed his future plans for a possible MotoGP project.
