Solid progress paying off for Simone Corsi
Moto2™ is powered byThe JiR Moto2 team rider became the first Italian to finish on the podium in the new intermediate category.
Runner-up in the 2008 125cc World Championship with five victories and seven podiums, Simone Corsi had already proven his potential to challenge at the top before the 2010 season got underway, and last weekend the 23 year-old secured his first podium finish in the Moto2 class with third place at Le Mans.
In doing so Corsi became the first Italian to finish inside the top three in the new intermediate class, and his achievement was made all the more impressive by the fact that there is a total of seven other of his compatriots in Moto2, five of whom have experience in either the former 250cc class or even MotoGP.
Added value was given to Corsi’s result by the fact that his team, JiR Moto2, have developed the Motobi chassis in a short amount of time after adopting the frame following some indifferent testing results in pre-season.
“I’m extremely happy with this result. We’re doing a very good job, I have a good relationship with the team and I’m finding the right feeling with the bike while pushing hard and being fast,” said the Italian rider after the Le Mans race.
“Each time I jump on the bike I learn that little bit more that lets me get faster and faster. The Championship is still a long way away: we need to collect points after points and this podium gives us a strong base for the future,” added Corsi, who is now third in the overall standings after results of eighth and fifth place in the opening two rounds in Qatar and Jerez.
