Dr Xavier Mir named President of Wings for Life in Spain
Wings for Life is a private, non-profit organisation that investigates the treatment of spinal injuries, and has Dani Pedrosa and Andrea Dovizioso as ambassadors.
Doctor Xavier Mir, a chief Orthopaedic surgeon at the USP Institut Universitari Dexeus in Barcelona, has been appointed President of Wings for Life in Spain.
The Wings for Life Spinal Cord Research Foundation is a privately funded, non-profit organisation which promotes research worldwide in order to help develop scientific and clinical progress towards a cure for Spinal Cord Injury Paralysis. It was founded in Austria in 2004 by Dietrich Mateschitz (Red Bull) and Heinz Kinigadner (KTM).
One of the primary principles of Dr Mir during his time as President will be to help to continue the development of the humanitarian side of the organisation, along with the continuation of activities undertaken with the Fundación Dakar Solidario, helping hospitals in Africa.
Therefore, it has established a partnership agreement with the Société Panafricaine de Personnes Handicapées (PANAPH) based in Nouakchott, Mauritania, to help with the organisation of primary healthcare resources for neurological treatment.
To develop this project, the organisation has the support of the entire global infrastructure of the Wings for Life Foundation, with its President Anita Gerhardter and a number of elite sportspeople as ambassadors. Dani Pedrosa and Andrea Dovizioso are amongst those, and there is also assistance from organisations, one of which is Dorna Sports.
