Vittoriano Guareschi explains the new GP10
The Ducati Marlboro Team Manager and test rider gives motogp.com the lowdown on the new Desmosedici in a special video.
Casey Stoner and Nicky Hayden were hard at work on the development of the new Ducati Desmosedici GP10 prototype at the Sepang test last week, and will continue the evolution of the new machine at the Malaysian circuit later in the month.
The bike has some major changes from its 2009 predecessor, and Ducati Marlboro Team Manager Vittoriano Guareschi – who is also test rider for the MotoGP team – explained them in the video you can view here.
“The bike has many new things,” explained the Italian. “The biggest difference is the engine: the new engine is a big bang, whereas the Ducati engine has been a screamer for the past three years. Another important change is the seat support – this is completely new and is stiffer compared to last year, which is much better for the feeling. It’s possible to understand the rear tyre better. There is a new front fork which is the same brand – Öhlins – but it’s completely new. With this fork it’s possible to push more in the braking. We think this is a good advantage.”
Guareschi continued: “We have a further important point, which is the swingarm. In this case it is aluminium but we have a choice of carbon fibre. With the swingarm in carbon it is possible to improve the bike in different conditions.”
Guareschi also pointed out the new fairing, which was displayed in the final four races of the 2009 season, and concluded by adding: “These are the big differences and we want to see the results on the track!”
