Leonov recovering well after elbow surgery

It was an eventful debut in the Moto2 category for Vladimir Leonov at the season-opening Commercialbank Grand Prix of Qatar, where the Russian rider suffered a fractured right elbow as he crashed out of the first-ever race in the new intermediate class.

As Leonov continued to work his way up from the rear of the field of riders, it was on lap eight that the Russian rider experience some difficulties that led to the high side crash which ended his race early.

“The front wheel started to move about, but I could control the bike’s movement,” explained Leonov. “However, the back wheel then jumped about and touched the artificial grass which led to the high side. I fell hard enough to injure my elbow,” added Leonov.

The 22 year-old suffered the fractured right elbow which required an operation and went under the knife last week, and Leonov’s rehabilitation is going well. He plans to meet his fan club in Moscow at the end of the week, before travelling to Spain to begin preparing for the next race at Jerez which takes place on May 2nd.
