Mapfre Aspar Team opt for RSV Moto2 chassis
The Valencian team has signed a deal to use the Italian manufacturer’s prototype in the inaugural Moto2 World Championship season in 2010.
The Mapfre Aspar Team announced on Tuesday that it will contest the first Moto2 World Championship season with an RSV chassis, having signed a one-year deal with the Italian firm.
After three days of testing last December, in which team riders Julián Simón and Mike di Meglio tried five different bikes, the team has settled on the RSV which they felt best suited their needs.
“Despite being in its experimental stages when both Julián and Mike tested the RSV prototype, both highlighted the incredible features it has. It helped us a lot in the decision we made,” explained team chief Jorge Martinez ‘Aspar’.
“It is clear that it is too soon to speak because the project is in its early stages, but the potential and room for development help us to expect the best from it. I think we have gone for the best deal on the table, because both Salvatore Giorlandino and Riccardo Drisaldi have lots of experience with 4-stroke bikes. Their experience and ours in competition is what will make a difference in April, when the World Championship starts.”
Martinez continued: “I am convinced that between the two parties we can achieve incredible development and fine tuning of the bike. Since we started working together in December, the relationship has been good and we could not have started better. The riders are enthusiastic about the project and know it is a winning one. I owe it to my riders and sponsors to give them the best equipment.”
Mapfre Team Aspar plan to now conduct a two-day test at Valencia next week, where Simón and Di Meglio will gain further time aboard the RSV prototype for development.
