Elías shows sharpness in early Moto2 session
The Spaniard was quickest round the Le Mans circuit in the Sunday morning warm up, ahead of Alex de Angelis, Julián Simón and Andrea Iannone.
Toni Elías displayed early morning brightness in the French sunshine as he set the fastest lap of the Moto2 warm up session, in preparation for the Monster Energy Grand Prix de France race. The Gresini Racing Moto2 rider’s time of 1’39.632 made him just over three-tenths quicker than Alex de Angelis (RSM Team Scot).
Also on the pace was Julián Simón (Mapfre Aspar), who has displayed a rapid adaptation to his new Suter chassis over the weekend. The Spanish rider was followed by Andrea Iannone (Fimmco Speed Up) and Simone Corsi (JiR Moto2) inside the top five.
Yuki Takahashi (Tech3 Racing), who will start from second position on the grid, was sixth in the 20-minute session, with Niccolò Canepa (RSM Team Scot) and Championship leader Shoya Tomizawa (Technomag-CIP) seventh and eighth respectively. The top ten was completed by front row starters Jules Cluzel (Forward Racing) and Alex Debón (Aeroport de Castelló-Ajo).
The only fall of the session was for Sergio Gadea (Tenerife 40 Pons), whilst Takahashi survived a minor run off early on to continue his preparations. The Moto2 race is due to get underway at 12.15pm local time.
