Aerodynamics: A crucial MotoGP factor
In this video feature premier class riders Marco Simoncelli and Loris Capirossi discuss the significance of such an important feature on their motorcycles.
With such fine margins between success and failure in MotoGP the importance of every detail can make huge differences to each bike and rider. In this video feature MotoGP rookie Marco Simoncelli and veteran Loris Capirossi both discuss the importance of the technical aspect to them.
“The aerodynamics in every road racing bike is very important because when you go over 200 km/h it makes the difference,” explained Simoncelli, whose height resulted in some special modifications to his San Carlo Honda Gresini bike earlier this season.
“It’s not a big modification but each modification can give me more or less 3 or 4 km/h more in the straight,” added the Italian, who goes through the specific changes that were made in the attached video.
For a seasoned campaigner such as Capirossi it is of course a vital aspect. “When you have good aerodynamics it is much easier to reach top speed and to change direction. I did a lot of work in the Suzuki wind tunnel, in Japan, and we discovered many things,” said the 37 year-old, who also goes through the modifications that were made to his Rizla Suzuki GSV-R and the processes involved in the attached video.
