Nick Harris and Steve Parrish discuss British GP heritage

The motogp.com commentator and former World Championship rider discuss their memories of the great races from previous years after MotoGP’s return to the circuit this weekend following a 24-year absence.

Former 500cc rider Steve Parrish and motogp.com commentator Nick Harris take a look back on the history of Silverstone, scene of the British GP from 1977-1986 and once more this year, as the AirAsia British Grand Prix brings the World Championship back to the Northamptonshire site.

“I have some fantastic memories here at Silverstone,” lamented Parrish in the attached video. “We switched to Silverstone in 1977 and I loved it because it was fast, as it is now. I had a terrific race and was at the top of my form, and about three laps before the end I took the lead and stretched it to about three seconds.”

“But then as I went into Copse (Turn 1) on the final lap I slid out and crashed! I couldn’t believe it!”

Parrish, now a TV commentator for the BBC, and Harris discuss their memories of the greatest races in the track’s history, including the 1979 500cc race in which Barry Sheene came within 0.030s of being the first British winner at Silverstone.
