Sito Pons: “Moto2 will be a very competitive and equal category”
A positive balance is found by the Pons Racing riders at the Moto2 test at the Circuit de Catalunya.
Weather played a part at Montmeló last week for the Moto2/125cc test but despite that the work completed by Pons Racing duo Axel Pons and Sergio Gadea on Thursday and part of Friday left the team very happy.
The two Spaniards were able to continue the evolution of the Pons Kalex prototype, and the first time they had shared the track with other bikes allowed team boss Sito Pons to assess the level of competition to some extent.
“Both Sergio and Axel improved their times in the hours they were able to complete on track on Thursday and Friday, and that’s positive,” said Sito Pons. “What is being increasingly shown is that this will be a very competitive and equal category, as we can see from the times. In my opinion it will be the little details that make the difference.”
He continued: “We have not been able to use the whole test because the weather has not been on our side once more, which means we’ve been unable to complete all the work we had planned. However, considering there are still nine days of testing before the start of the World Championship, we believe there is sufficient time to make advances with the plan we have.”
Pons Racing will participate in the next three scheduled tests – the next at Valencia from March 1-3 and two at Jerez – before the season starts on April 11 in Qatar. For the test at Valencia the Moto2 teams will have available to them the Honda engine which will be used in the World Championship in 2010.
